Dr. Gnanamurthy Kandaswamy

Dr. Gnanamurthy holds a Ph.D. in Foundry Technology, M.E. from IISc, Bengaluru, as well as an MBA, post his graduation in engineering. He's a veteran who served industry for 45 years, retiring as Vice President of LMW, a major in the machinery sector. Since then, for over 19 years, he has been consultant to a vast number of industry clients. These include McKinsey, Deloitte, Suzlon, Mahindra, Siemens (Austria), Tata Intl., BEML, Enercon, IDFC, Lohia Starlinger, Elgi, Caterpillar, Pitti Laminations, Magmasoft, Semco- Goldman Sachs, Thors (USA) and RSB, among others.


Dr. Gnanamurthy has authored around 20 publications. He's a member of the National Council of the Institute of Foundrymen. He has been chairman of the technical papers committee at the World Foundry Congress in 2008. He was an elected council member and director of CTI (formerly BCIRA/SCRATA, Birmingham, UK), the foremost center for research in cast metals. He has served on the board of studies in metallurgy at PSG Tech, professor and head of the dept. of management at MS Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies from 2006 to 2012. He's a regular columnist in Deccan Herald, with 57 articles as on date mostly on science and mild humor.


Dr. R. K. Ramanathan

Dr R K Ramanathan graduated with a B.Tech from IIT Madras, in 1968 and obtained his M.E degree from IISc Bangalore. He obtained his Ph.D from the University of California in Los Angeles in 1976 in the field of structural optimization. After his Ph.D. he joined the University of Southern California and Northrop Aircraft Company at Los Angeles. In 1985, he returned to India to join the ISRO Satellite centre (presently URSC). Two years later, he joined the Aeronautical Development Agency (DRDO) as Deputy Project Director and served the organization till his retirement in 2006 as Project Director, Technology Directorate. He was heading the groups of Information and Systems Management, Quality Systems, Product Life Cycle Management, Advanced Projects, Aerodynamic Research and Development and Signature Studies. His directorate was involved in ongoing projects of the Light Combat Aircraft (Tejas) and also in conceptual design of new aircraft configurations such as the Medium Combat Aircraft and the Unmanned Combat Aircraft Vehicle. When at ADA, he was also Program Director of the National Program on Smart Materials, under DRDO, ISRO, CSIR, IT and DST. This program oversaw the management of projects at various R&D and Research Institutions across the country. Infrastructure for MEMS design, materials development and development of MEMS devices had been funded through this program. He was involved in implementation of a Product Life Cycle Management System across various workcentres for the design of the various variants of the LCA (Tejas) which is now part of the Indian Air Force.


While at ADA, he guided two students for their Ph.D, as well as many master’s student projects. He has also guided many master's students at USC. He has about 36 papers published in journals and conferences. He has taught Geometric Modeling and CAD courses at IISc as part of PROFICIENCE, a program for working engineers.


Dr. Ramanathan was an AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor at PSG College of Technology at the Department of Production Engineering. He has been an Advisor and Technical Consultant to a number of engineering companies such as ASM Technologies, AGADA Medical Technology and Omega Analytics. He was an Advisor and Technical Consultant at Visual Collaboration Technology and has been with the company since 2007 till 2021. He is a Fellow of the Aeronautical Society of India, member of the Computer Society of India (CSI), Institute of Smart Structures and Systems, and of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was also former Chair Person of Computer Society of India (CSI) Bangalore Chapter.
